Art Garfunkel
Arthur Ira Garfunkel, born November 5th, 1941, in Forest Hills, Queens, New York, is an American singer, actor, author and poet, who became iconic through his partnership with Paul Simon in the folk rock duo, Simon & Garfunkel.
Garfunkel met Simon in school, and they began performing together in the 1950s. As Simon & Garfunkel, they became one of the best-selling music artists of the defining rock era, producing hits like The Sound of Silence, Mrs. Robinson, and The Boxer. Their final studio album, Bridge Over Troubled Water, with its eponymous title track and Garfunkel's soaring lead vocals, is one of the world's best-selling anthems and albums.
Beginning in 1973, Garfunkel launched his solo career, releasing several studio albums, live albums and compilation albums to date. His successful solo recordings include such hits as I Only Have Eyes for You, Bright Eyes, (What A) Wonderful World and All I Know, which broke the Top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
In addition to his musical achievements, Garfunkel has appeared in films such as Catch-22, Carnal Knowledge, and the classic Bad Timing. Garfunkel has also gone on to publish both a book of prose poetry, Still Water: Prose Poems, and his memoir, What Is It All But Luminous: Notes From An Underground Man, showcasing his wide range of artistic talents and endeavors.
